How to choose good performance Wi-Fi module for Robot?
Share on TwitterShare on LinkedinShare on Email
When building a unique robot, choosing a good Wi-Fi module is crucial. First, you need to determine whether your robot will act as a client, a master AP for other clients, or if you want a group of robots to communicate with each other even without internet access.
There are three possible situations:
- Pure client to link to other Wi-Fi routers:
In this case, you will need a WiFi LAN card, similar to the one installed in your PC or laptop. Our WS2433 is a typical 11ac mini PCIe card with a high-power, long-range version available for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies. - AP router:
AP router modules can act as both clients and masters simultaneously. In network settings, you can configure it as a bridge or a repeater. For more information and applications, please refer to our AWM002, AWM071, AP7620-MPE-2. You can connect a USB camera to function as an IP camera, use a USB microphone and speaker for voice control, control IO using different interfaces such as UART, I2C, I2S, PWM, and more. You can also add switches and sensors. For additional information, you can visit openwrt.org. - MESH:
Recently, MESH has become a popular type of WiFi router product. To understand more about WiFi MESH, you can check Wikipedia. A wireless mesh network (WMN) consists of radio nodes organized in a mesh topology and operates as a wireless ad hoc network. To implement a WiFi MESH, you will need WiFi router boards. Due to the high CPU consumption rate of WiFi MESH, it is advisable to choose a WiFi router chip with higher speed, such as the MT7621 with an 880MHz MIPS CPU. The main benefit of a WiFi MESH is that end devices, like your mobile device, don’t need to set different SSIDs and passwords. You can seamlessly access different WiFi areas using the same SSID and password. You can refer to our products below to build your own WiFi MESH: CCPE001, AP7621-001, AP7621-NV1. It’s important to note that you cannot use a small PCBA to create a WiFi MESH. If you choose a WiFi router chip with a lower CPU rate, your MESH will be limited to 2 to 3 WiFi routers with lower performance.
In the future, we will discuss how to determine the specifications for your wireless system and the important factors to consider when setting it up.
